Message Hallo there. I am writing for my husband Ray Duralski. We both enjoy your site very much. I lived in Melton & worked at the Telephone Exchange, where I made quite a few friends.
1 or 2 of them I will never forget. My Husband was at Bentwaters in 1970-73. He was discharged in '73 then came back to England & we married in 1975, I had two sons from a previous marriage & the Ray & I had a daughter in '76. We came back to the States in 1986, but as my family was in England I visited Woodbridge two or three times & got in touch with some school mates. I was Maureen Kirby before I married & would love to hear from anyone who remembers me. Woodbridge has changed so much it is so pretty now. Please feel free to give me any intake
Thankyou
Maureen Duralski (nee Kirby) ex Smith.

Message What a great time in my life and I have so many fond memories of bentwaters. I played on the base basketball team during my 2 years there. during the my last year there we compiled an 18-2 record which I think still stands today as the best record in Bentwaters history. We had so many grat players, Hank Brown, Isadore Brown, Bones Bennett, Clayes, Jefferson, Oops Alston, Dogan just to mention a few. My first year there we were blessed with the talent of Alan Mills, perhaps the greatest player to wear a Phantom uniform. We stay in touch with each other and visit one another from time to time. Another friend I stay in touch with is Ray "poor dog" Ruffin from Beaumont, Texas. After my tenure on active duty I joined the Tenn air national guard and retired as a CMS after 27 yrs total service.

Message Best assignment in my 20yr career bar none. 13th person to arrive to set up this FOL. So many "firsts" I can count! Unbelievable camaradarie between the officers and NCO's. Wonderful German people that bring back the fondest memories. Extended twice, and should have extended a third time. I loved the food, the beer, but mostly all the terrific people. Some day I will go back to visit. Perhaps visit with Hans-Herman Kuckenbecker and his family at the Altes-Post House. If you were a pilot I knew you and probably we had a beer or two together. A lot of exercises, ORI's, and long days, but, also a lot of great times, volksmarchs, fests, and good fun. Oh, to relive those days!

Message Looking for any old 92nd TFS Weapons Mechanics. Remember cranking in the 20 ml rounds in the gun pod? What were the bomblifters called( MJ-1/MJ-4). Hated sticking my head behind the rocket launchers to punch one out with a screwdriver when one came back stuck from a flight. TDYs were great, got to get suntans in Libya, Turkey, Spain, Italy, Sardinia, then come back to the cold in England. Wish I could do it all over again, the Queens Head pub in Saxmundham, Running Buck in Ipswich, beer on base was $2.40 a case, Bacardi Rum was $1.25 a fifth. Don't drink anymore, but sure enjoyed my youth in a fantastic country. Looking for Gary Furstenberg, Greg Treadwell, Johnny Payne, Edward Dumas, Pete Holloway.
Cheers to a great group of troops!!

Message My wife, Romelle and I, along with three daughters, loved our time in the UK. When we first arrived in 1969 we stayed in the Coach and Horses in Melton for several weeks on TLA until we moved into base housing on Woodbridge. We met folks at the Pub who became lasting friends. I was the Chief Controller at Woodbridge and worked with really great controllers, including three English civilians who were known as Native Sons. I had worked with two of these 10 years before when a very young airman at RAF Lakenheath and assigned at Anglia radar air traffic control center. A look back now, this is all ancient history and of very little interest, so cheerio.

Message Overall, I enjoyed my assignment at Woodbridge - my off-duty hours, that is. As anyone else who had the "pleasure" of being a cop in that environment, he/she realizes that it could be hell at times, but a whole lot colder! Anyway, I loved England, that area, and the surrounding cities and towns. Does anyone remember the Running Buck in Ipswich? I only went there a few times, as I never liked hanging around places where there were so many other "yanks".

Driving on the left side of the road for the first time, roundabouts and Morris Minors? Coin operated electric meters and needing a licence for TV. Water heaters above the sink and bathtub, and friges that bearly reached your waist? Two weeks without seeing the sun and the F-4 drivers bragging they saw it everyday. The Farmer who fertilized with Pigs ^#%$! in the field accross from the dorms on Bentwaters (pray for no wind). The freezing cold water of the north sea at Felixstow beach? Warm beer and Lager and Lime? Hamburgers made out of ham? And ice cream that was soooo good? What's not too love?

I also went to school with a child whose father was in the USAF and stationed at Bentwaters, he lived at Mill Hill, Aldringham and I believe was called Richard. This would be about 1969-70. I have fond memories of Suffolk and living with Phantoms and A-10s (too young to remember the Voodoos!) Best Wishes to all who loved our part of Suffolk.

Message Loved my time at RAF Bentwaters/Woodbridge. Had the greatest job in the AF. Lots of good friends. Visited what a young NCO could afford, and later came back to Greenham for four years. Remember always running out of charcoal, "Bud", and the great toilet paper shortage.

Message I just found the Bentwaters web site. In late 1975 I was the Executive Officer for the 91st TFS. I was not stationed at Bentwaters at the time of the loss of these officers but our Squadron Commander, Tom Wiley, was and asked me to do something to remember them. I employed an English woodworker in Norfolk to create the memorial. I fastened it to a pavilion on the Woodbridge Base where it apparently remained a very long time.

I'm already on this site, but wanted to pop back and write for any interested parties. Aircraft tail #678 an F-4D from Bentwaters, is now completely restored and on display at the Aerospace Museum in Bodo, Norway. I was on the crew that carried her from the Boneyard at DM to Norway, in a C-5, back around 1997. God Bless all, "Bear"

WOW "CrippleCreek". Nothing but great memories. Flying around England with the Aero Club; driving a couple of Tractor-trailers to Wales with Pete Santanello and getting lost as hell plus breaking down. Good thing it's a small island!!! I remember Tupper from the missile shop and when his wife to be Debra got there. I just sent and e-mail to my old roommate Jess Van Tom. I hope that e-mail address still works, he logged on back in 2003. If anyone has made contact with him, I'm trying to hook up. To Terry Purdom, Jeff Pierce, Don Crews, David Williamson, Marty Rammel, Tom Schoop, Frank Grandelski, Mike Connolly, Clay Magnesson, Dale Toleson, Msgt Richard White; hope you guys are well, where ever you may be. Managed to find Ans Scott, chief flight instructor at the B/W Woodbridge Aero Club, during the 70's. She's living out in CA now. I retired 31 Dec 04 with my last assignment as a Flight Engineer on C-5's. I left "AMMO" in 1979. I'm currently living in Jersey. (jersey blows) but hoping to escape here shortly. Anyway great website!!! Keep up the good work. "Bear"

attended 8th & 9th grade at Woodbridge and then 10th grade at Lakenheath. What great memories. Everyone from the Aubry's, to the Dormans, and so on. The quonset huts, snow, fog, the job of passing out the movie schedule for the week on the base (and then getting in free on the movies), and so on. Keep it up! This is a great site.

Wrote Really enjoyed my stay at Bentwaters. Bought a new VW bug from the guy that sat in a VW outside the gate. Shot skeet and trap at the Rod and gun club, also hunted on leased land the club had. Spent a lot of time TDY to Wheelus AB, Libya, Incerlik AB, Turkey, and a NatO weapons meet at Spandahlem AB, Germany. Some names I remember are, Al Vinduska, Glen Dahlgren, Thomas L. Johnson, Gary Sink, ? Worland, Vern Dornboos, Sgt. Touchstone, and others that have slipped my mind for the moment.
