Been digging around and have found a few pictures of the area and our time there bringing memories of the times. I don't remember anyone really but do have fond memories of some events, places fish and chips wrapped in newspaper held close to the chest to help stay warm, Guy Fawkes day and winning at bingo which I think my folks traded my win for booze. No paved streets on base when we arrived started school in a local school till one was started for dependent kids.
Any info to help fill in the gaps would be appreciated. Thanks

I am looking for anyone who was based at Bentwaters in the 1950s/1960s, particularly those who are still living in the UK, especially around Suffolk.
I work for a touring theatre company, and we are performing at The Hush House, Bentwaters Parks, in July this year (including Independence Day) and the play touches on the residency of the USAF.
We are particularly looking for people who have stories to tell, to include in our pre-show tour of the base, but also we would like to welcome any of these ex-service men to see the show.
I can be contacted on +0044-01473-218202.

My dad passed away 01/08/10. This is where he was stationed when my brother Rick and I were born.
We left in Nov 1958.
Thanks for giving me this time and space to thank my dad for growing up in the USAF. I had the best life ever. I would like to thank you all for your service to our country.

'RAY' KELLY!!
Does anyone have any recollection of the above-named USAF Serviceman in and around Bury St Edmunds UK late 1955? He was aged 18/19 years old. He frequented a coffee shop in the town centre around this time. Any snippets of information gratefully received...Thanks for your time

Here's a message for Rick Quirk (email NINTHAF(at)aol.com but it fails for me)
Rick, maybe the reason that Sculthorpe website admiistrator didn't respond was because, like me, every time he answered, the emails were rejected. I sent you this reply, which was rejected:
Hello Rick,
I must say I can sympathise with the Sculthorpe website curator! It can be a VERY time-consuming 'hobby' and I certainly wouldn't volunteer to take it over !! :o)
Is this the site you found?

My name is Tom (or Jock) Lawson and based, a looooong time ago at RAF Bentwaters. There may be some obscure possibility that a very good old buddy could be on your lists. I was at Bentwaters around 1948-49-50 and was attached to the Transport section under the control of W/O Connery. My job was feeding the new Vampires with kerosine.
My best mate was Paddy (John) MacCrudden a fiery Irishman who signed on for a further 3 years. Swede Shelley was another mate. We used to have a beer or two at the pub near the MT Section and being the young tearaway that I was then, dated a lass named Dorothy Crittenden whilst meeting the Land Army girls at the Pub on occasions.
We used the Jeep on the odd nite to shoot rabbits, avoiding W/O Connery on his way home from the Pub. Bad lads we were !!! We slept in the old Nissan Huts with I think, 20 guys to the billet, they were great days.
Paddy and I were once locked in the Land Army premises and had to spend a cold nite before the lady(?) in charge let us out.
My wife and I visited Bentwaters in 1982, then an American station, but barely recognised the place. I came to Oz in 1952 and, of course have heard no more from any RAF mates.
Would love to hear from anyone from those days,
Tommy Lawson

Hello Linn,
love your site and often log on!
I was employed (as Business Manager) at the USAF Officers' Club Bentwaters from 1953 to 1959 when I emigrated to the US - ever hear from any civilians from about that time? I never see much in the news from personnel who were there at that time either (guess we're too old!).
My wife and I just came back from a visit to Suffolk, I had a look around Bentwaters and honestly, didn't recognise anything! Our daughter, who lives in Suffolk just purchased one of the old base houses at Woodbridge base, they have re-modelled them and are very nice.
Be wonderful if anyone there remembers me, Bill Double, but after 45 years it's probably not possible, best wishes to you and yours!! (e mail bowdod (a) aol.com)

It was unbelievable with every type of meat, side dish and dessert

such awesome food offerings.What memories.

I was young, dumb and ready for anything. On the base we supported

I am trying to trace any information on my father, David W.
Butler who was stationed at Bentwaters during the 1950's. I
believe he was a Master Sergeant in the base Police.
I would like to know anything about him, who his friends were/are
and if there are any of his relations remaining anywhere, other
than me.
He was based at Westover air base at the 814th Air Base Group
in the States. I think his number was AF33783765.
I was born in April '57 and although I have a couple of pictures
of him from that time I have no other information. He 'married'
(although known as "Mrs Butler" I have no evidence
of a wedding ceremony) my mother, who was at the time, the local
Nurse. Her maiden name was Sheila Morley.
Vic
Mitrisin, I have a couple of Bentwaters names for you (1954-1957):
Charles "Chuck" Preuss - Chuck and I went thru basic
training at Sampson AFB (upstate New York - near the Finger
Lakes), then attended Radio/Radar Maintenence Tech School at
Scott AFB Belleville, Illinois, near St. Louis MO - I beleive
he was from Meadeville, Pennsylvania.
S/SGT Denny Turner - Denny was TDY at Shepherds Grove for several
months and worked out of our flight line COMSHOP - big guy
, I think he was from Texas.
Thanks,
Vic Mitrisin

I am looking for my father. Information on my father is a bit
vague but this is what I have. He was a S.SGT ROGER SYLVESTER
REEVES at the LIQUID OXYGEN BAY on WOODBRIDGE during the period
stated above. He was about 40 years of age when he left WOODBRIDGE.
He met my mother when we lived in the area and they had me in
1961. The trouble then started in that Roger already had a wife
and family in the states. Thus Roger was sent home and any contact
between my mother and Roger was blocked by the Air Force. I myself
bare no malice towards my father but now have a son of my own
who is asking many questions to which I have no answers. Please
let me know if anyone knew him - many thanks

Christensen. U.S.Military 1952 until 1954/5. Based in Norfolk
probably at RAF Sculthorpe, lowest rank. Spent weekends at Great
Yarmouth, went to the Britannia Pier Dances. Blond, around 5'10"
with flat parted hair. Had a friend he called Bob who was taller
and dark haired. Stayed at Rose Folke's house at 22 Madden Avenue,

Name sounded like Christian Christiansen, nickname Christy. Stayed
with other American Servicemen at Rose Folkes' house when he was
in town. Was questioned during investigation of the murder of
Milton Martinez the week after Sept 6 1953. Wore a khaki uniform
